About Us

Himalayan Kitchen brings the authentic flavors of the Himalayan region of Tibet Nepal and India to your doorstep without culinary compromise. Himalayan Kitchen is probably the only South Asian restaurant in Durango Colorado that serves gourmet yak meat. We serve traditional Tibetan dishes like “Mo-mo”(dumplings) and Thukpa, Nepali dishes “Dhaal-Bhaat-Tarkaari” (lentil, rice, and curry) and “Sekuwa” (clay-oven roasted vegetable and meat dishes)and Indian Dish in various flavors. Our chef has also created new flavors from his visits to different continents, where he learned and integrated new ways of preparing meals to his already expansive repertoire. In Himalayan Kitchen, you are presented with the opportunity of tasting blends of cuisines from various Himalayan regions and others.

Very often, guests suggest that Nepali cuisine appears like Indian cuisine and so do names. However, it is important to distinguish the flavors between these two cuisines. Indian cuisine is usually spicier and has more gravy. The food usually tastes hot and contains much spice, whereas, Nepali cuisine is less spicy, thinner gravy yet bold in test. Besides, Nepali cuisine is milder and is preferably eaten with rice due to its watery texture. Our food is healthier and we prepare our meals with specific spice relevant to our country flavor. With names, it is likely that we have common dish names as we share the same script and have much similarity. Both Nepali and Indian languages are derived from “Sanskrit”, which is a foundation for many languages in South Asia. And of course, India is the biggest nation in South Asia hence it has much influence on neighboring countries including Nepal. We use spices that are also used in Indian cuisines, however cooking style differs significantly.

Himalayan Kitchen welcomes you with warm hearts and delicious meals. We are very optimistic that you experience in our amiable atmosphere will be enjoyable and memorable.
